Verona Airport, Italy

I thought I'd put some notes down about Verona airport, Italy, as you don't seem to be able to review airports on TripAdvisor.  Maybe if you have a choice, it might help you to decide.

We flew there to go skiing.  On arrival, we were told that the bags might be a bit delayed coming through to the baggage carousel, which is fair enough.

The signs said that our luggage would be on carousel 4.  Above carousel 4 our flight wasn't listed, but it was listed above carousel 3.

We stuck with carousel 4 and one suitcase came off, so thought we were fine.  Then a rumour went round that some cases were coming off carousel 3.  I went to check it out and found another bag of ours.  Then one came off 4.  We were left with one bag to collect, so we kept going between the two.

After about 45 minutes, there weren't many people left in the baggage area and our last bag was on a trolley they'd manually hauled in from the plane and dumped in the corner.

On the way back, we checked in, then went through security.  Not much the other side, but enough to keep you interested.  There was going to be the need to go through passport control before going to the gate, but as there was nothing after passport control, you don't want to do that too soon.  Suddenly, there was a huge queue at passport control, so being Brits, we thought we should join in.  The queue quickly became more of a crush.

What seemed to be happening was that some people were pushing to the front of the queue, then being told they couldn't go through passport control yet.  A member of airport staff was going down the crowd/queue asking if you were English, and making you push to the front if you were.  They never asked if you were going to and English airport!  The people who were getting to the front and not being allowed through were just standing in the way of everyone else, and hampering the queue.

No member of staff tried to sort the queue out into a bit more of an orderly situation.  We got through, and we didn't think the flight was actually boarding.  However, they'd filled one bus up with passengers and they were stood on the bus for about 20 minutes before moving off.

We waited another 20 minutes for the empty bus to come back, then went and did our wait.

Of course, because everyone had struggled through passport control (we never saw a sign saying "go to passport control now") the flight missed its take off slot.

Not great - I know that airports can be annoying when your flight is delayed, when there is bad weather, etc.  This was just normal service, so I would hate to be there when there are issues!

Avoid if you can.
